The water-based screenprinting method and the acrylic-resist etching system are the modern options – safer, healthier and more environmentally friendly, as well as quick to learn and accessible to all.
Gentle on people and the environment: Lascaux Tusches are a pioneering achievement by Lascaux and have been designed to offer the greatest possible freedom in creating positives for light-sensitive printmaking processes. They are water-based and opaque, and they are suitable for photo-etching, photo-collagraphy, photo-screenprinting and photo-lithography.
Lascaux Acrylic Resist Etching
A water-based, non-toxic printing system.
These reliable new acrylic resists have been carefully designed to provide all the marks associated with traditional materials as well as relating closely to classical working methods.

18010 Screen Filler. To form waterproof stencils. This product fills the mesh effectively and is easy to remove after printing. Can be used in combination with Lascaux Screen Painting Fluid.
18011 Screen Painting Fluid. Ready-to-use, water-soluble Lascaux Screen Painting Fluid dries quickly to water-soluble stencils, fills meshes effectively and is easy to see in the mesh. Use in combination with Lascaux Screen Filler to make creative stencils for waterbased screenprinting.
18020 Tusche Wash. Similar properties to China ink and can be diluted to create layered washes as applied in lithography. Scratching into dry markings creates fine non-printing lines.
18021 Tusche Wash/spray. This tusche can be sprayed from a simple airbrush and is required if Lascaux Lift Solution is to be used. It can also be used for painting washes and handles like Chinese ink.
18022 Tusche Waterproof. Fast drying, waterproof and scuff resistant, this semi-viscous has homogenous covering power and is useful for a broad range of painted marks. The diluted tusche dries to resemble 'toad-skin' washes usually found in zinc-plate lithography.
18023 Water-soluble Tusche. This viscous tusche can be painted in a smooth even layer which can be scratched away to create delicate non-printing lines. It can also be used for a broad range of painted marks, offsetting and pattern-making. Dry marks can be re-wet and altered if required.
18024 Soft-ground effect Tusche. A slow-drying viscous tusche designed to produce effects similar to soft-ground in traditional etching. Useful for making impressions of materials such as fabrics, leaves and more.
18035 Lift Solution. Used in conjunction with Lascaux Aquatint Resist or Lascaux Tusche Wash/Spray. The method is similar to 'sugar-lift' in traditional etching. The markings created with Lascaux Lift Solution resemble classic sugar-lift marks.
18040 Tusche Diluting Liquid. A ready-to-use liquid for diluting Lascaux Tusches to alter their handling characteristics or to create delicate washes on positives.
2098 Remover. Removes dried Lascaux Screen filler, Acrylic resist, Tusches, Acrylic paints etc. from screens, metal intaglio plates, smooth substrates, work surfaces, paint brushes and tools. To ensure a thorough cleaning of screens use a high pressure hose.

2090 Hard Resist (or ground). Apply to the etching plate by brush. Acid resistant, it has a soft waxy feel and can be etched into with etching needle, roulette, scraper or steel wool. Suitable for copper, zinc and steel plates.
2091 Plate-Backing Resist. This tinted, scratch-proof etching resist is applied to edges and rear sides of the printing plate in order to prevent undesired biting during the acid bath.
2092 Stop-Out Resist. This tinted etching-ground is easy to apply and can be drawn into with etching tools when it is dry. It is used to paint the plate, stop-out lines when step-biting, to edit or correct plates.
2093 Soft Resist. This slow-drying resist is designed to offset easily and is used for soft crayon- or pencil-like drawings or textures from collages.
2094 Wash Resist. This tinted granular resist is used in conjunction with Lascaux Aquatint Spray Resist for effects similar to watercolour or tusche washes.
2095 Aquatint Spray Resist. This tinted etching resist is sprayed directly onto the plate, creating layers that are easy to control. It is used in conjunction with Lascaux Lift solution, other cutting techniques, templating, and Lascaux Wash resist.
2096 Black Coating. Lascaux Black coating is used in conjunction with Lascaux Hard resist and enhances visibility of the markings created with the etching instruments. The topcoat is not acid-resistant and is to be removed with water before etching. After this the plate can be processed with a stop-out resist.
